The Christian Public Servant – “let others see”

July 3, 2017 – Monday

Scripture
Matthew 5:16(b) [NIV] let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Reflection
One day after work a friend went to a grocery store. There were many people shopping that evening, and all wanted to get through the checkout line as quickly as possible. Naturally, the checkout lines were long.

A woman unknown to my friend pushed past several people to get next to my friend. This woman told my friend that she had been watching her throughout the store and believed my friend to be a Christian. She asked if my friend would pray over her because something was wrong. Well, my friend took the time to pray over this woman.

Some people in the checkout line were bothered. After all, prayer stopped my friend from loading up the conveyor belt. It kept the cashier from scanning my friend’s items and putting them into sacks. It kept my friend from immediately paying for her items. And yes, that prayer took a few minutes of everyone’s time.

My friend didn’t pay attention to all of the hustle and impatience about her. Rather, she decided to share Christ’s love and let others see. She wasn’t arrogant, nor was she slow to act.  Furthermore, she wasn’t shy or afraid to glorify her Father in heaven. She let others see her example of sharing Christ’s love.

Today someone may need you. That’s right; someone may need YOU as a Christian public servant to share Christ’s love with him or her. This may take place on the way to work, at work, or even after work. It may be in someone else’s workplace. That person will need you to step out of your comfort zone and bring our Lord a bit closer.

How will you react? What will you do? Will you step out? Will you shy away from sharing the love of Christ?

Today, set the example and let others see you share Christ’s love with the world. Your example will bring about blessings and will glorify Father!

Prayer
Lord, forgive me for those times when my light is too dim. Give me strength to ever increase the wattage of Your Spirit in me. Let me never be afraid to let others see me share Christ’s love. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
