The Christian Public Servant – “based on much more”

Your value

October 5, 2017 – Thursday

Reading
Joshua 1:8 [KJV] This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Reflection
I woke up yesterday morning reflecting on what I had to do. Get to work, check the e-mail, respond to e-mails, make phone calls, work on cases, interview clients, write reports, maybe take a lunch break, fight with the electronics that never seem to work, write more reports, and finally leave work. I felt discouraged just thinking about my day.

Work seems to be a never-ending to-do list. Nothing ever seems to be finished. Unfortunately, that means I often define success as accomplishing one task, not adding another three items to my do-to list, or just making it through another chaotic day. If I accomplish anything, I feel successful and my ways have been prosperous. However, many days I leave the office feeling unsuccessful and discouraged.

In the chaos, I so often forget that God does not define my prosperity and success through what I accomplish at work on a daily basis. He does call me to work hard, but my prosperity and successfulness in life are based on much more.

Today at work, meditate on laws of the Lord and strive to obey them. Then, and only then, will you understand true prosperity and find your day to be successful – even if your entire to-do list is not accomplished.

Yes, meditate on His laws, and you will find your value is based on much more!

Prayer
Lord, the way to success is only through You! Help me remember that truth today as I prepare for another busy day at my workplace. Lead me to a level of prosperity that can only be found in Your Word, and help me remember that accomplishing my to-do list does not define my success. In Your name I pray, Amen.
