The Christian Public Servant – “microphone for God”

Reading

1 Corinthians 16: 8-9 [NIV] But I stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.

Ephesians 4:29 [NIV] Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minster grace unto the hearers.

Reflection

Have you ever wondered how the apostles communicated in order share to the Good News about Jesus? How did they reach the world? How did they do this without communication tools like public address systems, phones, emails, social media posts, faxes, and other communication tools? In other words, what was their microphone for God?

Well, I believe it was their behavior. The example that each apostle set in everyday situations, as well as in the most trying times, was the best microphone for God. How each treated one another, cared for the sick, helped the poor, and sought out the downtrodden – it got everyone’s attention. Yes, because of the example of sharing Christ’s love through the way they lived, they spoke loudly in an edifying manner.

Today at work, you and I as the new apostles – Christian public servants – are called to be the standard bearers of the microphone for God. We are the ones who need to speak and deliver the message of the Good News by the way we perform our jobs and interact with God’s children. You and I can show compassion and empathy for coworkers and those we serve. We can take the extra measures to live the example of sharing Christ’s love.

Yes, at work today, won’t you lead others to Christ? In your own way, won’t you be a microphone for God?

 Prayer

Heavenly Father, please help me follow the example of the apostles and spread the Good News to others in my workplace. Help me effectively communicate to others by the way I live my life and work. Help me be Your microphone. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
