The Christian Public Servant – “not to be afraid or discouraged”

Deuteronomy 31:8 [NIV] The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.

I once worked with a friend who had to relocate to another job. While her husband searched for his new job, she was tasked with finding new daycare and new schools. They also searched for a new church home. While all this “newness” could bring on a lot of apprehension and fear, they found they were greeted and embraced in this new place.

Perhaps you have to relocate because of job or profession. Packing and moving quickly can be part of the ladder for career success, or it can be a lifeboat to survival in this economy. And it’s never easy to leave family, friends, support systems, and a familiar workplace. If you’re like me, it can be easy to affix your eyes on all the uneasiness.

But throughout the smoke of weary, fearfulness, and uncertainty, remember the Lord himself goes before you! How reassuring! You may not be able to connect all the dots right away, but you must find peace in knowing He is going before you. He even tells you not to be afraid or discouraged.

If a job change is in your future, whether it’s in the same community or thousands of miles away, remember He tells you not to be afraid or discouraged.

He is there with you! He goes before you!

Lord, I pray that I travel with a courageous spirit, and I take on this responsibility boldly and fearlessly knowing You have gone before me. Let me find peace knowing this truth. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
