Reading

Psalm 140:4(a) [NIV] Keep me safe, LORD, from the hands of the wicked;

1 Corinthians 14:33 [NIV] For God is not a God of disorder but of peace as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

Reflection

Some time ago, a coworker confided that she was being sexually harassed by a supervisor. I was relatively new to the school, and I didn’t really want to ruffle any feathers – leaving me at a cross-road as to how to handle that situation. After this teacher confided in me a second time, and I could visibly see her pain, I knew I had to act. And so we prayed.

I convinced her to speak with the principal, and she gave a detailed account of the incidents. I started to watch her around the school a bit more, and it only took one day before I witnessed this supervisor touching her inappropriately. I immediately reported the incident and, after a short investigation with other witnesses coming forward, that supervisor was fired. My coworker was so relieved and work became stress-free for her again.

Scripture reminds, the Lord promises to keep His followers from the hands of the wicked. He does not like disorder of the body, mind, and sole. Yet often, He requires others in the Body of Christ to be His hands, His feet, and His eyes. He requires us to come forward with His courage to protect others from the hands of the wicked.

At work today, know that Christian love entails maintaining your responsibilities toward others. Remember, you are required to do your part in fighting injustice. The main goal in life is to glorify the kingdom of God in all you do. And at work, that includes protecting others from the hands of the wicked.

Prayer

Father, grant me the patience and strength to be a light for those dealing with inequities. Even in the face of injustice, I will stand strong and be Your champion for those who need help finding peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
