The Christian Public Servant – “lead by example”

Reading

Luke 6:31 [NIV] Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Reflection

I was proud to serve my country in the army. As an E-4 Specialist, I was responsible for making sure my squad was “squared away.” I assumed leadership when designated to do so, and I tried my best to lead by example.

Scripture reminds us of Jesus’ expectations for how we are to treat others – and this includes when you or I are in leadership positions. Jesus’ life is the ultimate example of leadership, and just as Jesus would always lead by example, so must you and me.

Today at work, regardless of your position, lead by example. Follow Jesus. Do as He expects you to do.

Prayer

Dear God, help me guard my heart from temptation, and keep my character and reputation above reproach. At work, help me communicate with clarity, consistency, and competence. Remind me that my purpose is to love people, and use my influence for the good of others and Your glory. Grant me the wisdom to make decisions that are big and small. Never let me forget my conviction to follow You. In Your Son’s name, I pray. Amen.
