April 19, 2018 – Thursday
Psalms 46:10(a) [NIV] Be still, and know that I am God;
I Kings 19:12(b)-13 [NIV] And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
I’ll never forget my mother’s voice telling me, “be still.” I heard it, so it seemed, constantly. In the store, in the car, at the house – even at times when I was being still. It was as though she wanted me always to remember stillness is a most-important goal.
In the workplace, it is difficult to find that stillness. People going to and fro to make the most of each moment. Citizens to serve. Stress from deadlines. Anxiety from budgets.
Just as Elijah encountered God in the least expected form – in the still small voice – you must find a way to encounter His peace.
At work today, find that stillness.
After all, God can do more in one quiet moment than you can in a lifetime of work.
Wonderful Savior, thank You in advance for this workday. It is a blessing. Before I do anything today, I want to find a quiet moment with You. I realize I cannot do things alone. I need Your direction and guidance. I place my trust in You today. I dedicate this workday to Your service. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
