April 23, 2018 – Monday
Hebrews 12:1 [NIV] Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
My agency is conducting performance evaluations, and some coworkers are not happy with the results. I listened to one complain about her score, and how unfair her supervisor was in grading her that way. She went on and on about how she does everything one hundred ten percent, but she is passed over each time she applies for a new job assignment or promotion.
Then she confided how depressed she’s been over the last eighteen months. Given how much her stomach is tied in knots, I’m surprised she’s able to get up in the morning – let alone come to work. She believes her depression is due to people at work not really caring about her and not understanding just how hard she works.
Scripture is a witness as to why my coworker is reaping what she’s sowing. She is so absorbed with things that hinder and entangle, she really doesn’t know what race she’s in. Is she in the race He marks out for her, or is she in her own race?
If we don’t run with perseverance the race He marks out – then how can we expect to be rewarded for what we do?
At work today, don’t be like my coworker. Don’t complain and don’t blame. Don’t hold on to those anxieties that hinder and entangle you.
As this workweek begins, run with perseverance the race He marks out for you. And you will be a winner!
Father, You knew me before I was created. You alone have set my course here on earth. Give me strength and perseverance to be the best I can be. Let me be a witness to my coworkers so that they can see You in me. In everything I do, I give all glory and praise to You. In Your Son’s name, I pray. Amen.
